We’ve all heard of New Year resolutions. Many hate on them, but honestly I’m a big fan.
I think goal setting is really important and why not start off the New Year with a few personal goals you’d like to achieve?
This year my resolution was to be more creative. I’ve found I’ve been able to do that in a few ways, the major one being this blog. I came up with this idea in early January and I seriously love working on it every day.
I don’t consider myself a creative person, but through this little adventure I’ve enjoyed so many things I was never interested in before.
First, I’m writing more than ever, which has been so awesome. I write a lot for my job, but never in my free time other journaling in fits and starts. Now I find myself writing every day and it’s been a wonderful release.
I’ve also learn so much about photography. I’m barely scratching the surface of learning what goes into a good picture, but the trial and error is part of the fun.
I’m even learning the basics of graphic design. Of course I get frustrated at times because I want everything to come together and look “perfect” like the many other blogs I love, but it’s a process, and as cheesy as it sounds, the journey is the whole point right?
When I get hung on where I want to be, I can look at my day as a check list I need to mark off, not an experience I get to enjoy.
With that in mind, and being that today is June 20- the first day of summer- I thought I would extend my goals and come up with a Summer Resolution.
Something I can put my energy towards through these warm months and see where it takes me through the start of fall on September 22.
So in the spirit of summer, I am going to try something new every day. That’s 93 new experiences I’ll commit to having over the next three months.
I’ll be honestly with you- this no light challenge for me!
I’m a person who is pretty risk adverse, loves a good routine, and definitely guilty of playing it safe. For those very reasons, I think this will be a wonderful way to get out of my comfort zone.
To keep me accountable every day I’ll tweet the things I try using #summerresolution.
I’m sure some will be cool new things I never would done without this motivation and many will be smaller shifts from my norm.
The truth is they will be new for me and as a creature of habit that is good thing! Even trying a new food can be a bit of stretch, so it’s time I spice (maybe literally???) things up a bit.
