Have you tapped into the power of elixirs yet? If not, consider adding it to your to-do list, and your grocery list, too!
Much like kombucha took off a few years ago (I’m a huge fan- My personal favorite is Health Aid Pomegranate), elixirs are making their way into more and more people’s homes and hearts.
So what’s the deal with these concoctions?
Here is a little “elixirs for beginners”
As more and more consumers are demanding natural remedies, elixirs are becoming mainstream.
So the first thing to note, all elixirs are made with natural ingredients. If it says elixir on the front, and has a list of chemicals on the back, put it back on the shelf.
In fact to be safe, start with elixirs made by a well-known and reliable company.
I’m a huge fan of the line by Rebbl.
There are two elixirs that I use on a daily basis- the Maca Mocha and the Turmeric Golden Milk. In the Sacramento area, you can find them at Nugget Market, Whole Foods, and Raley’s.
Maca Mocha is made of maca root, traditionally used to enhance vitality and stamina. I add about a ¼ cup of this elixir to my morning coffee.
It tastes great thanks to the mocha flavor. An added benefit, thanks to the sweetness in the elixir, I’ve cut back on the amount of stevia I add to my coffee.
But most important, it gives me the extra kick that I need before a 5:30 a.m. spin class.
Pretty remarkable considering the serving size I use has almost no caffeine (the whole bottle only has 7 mg).
And it doesn’t only help with the initial kick of energy, it also helps with long-term stamina and endurance. The difference is notable. I feel the extra energy, but without the jitters. Very much appreciated!
The other elixir I use daily is the Turmeric Golden Milk.
Turmeric is the popular kid of the herbal remedy movement. It’s been in most people’s seasoning cabinets for years, but now its finally getting the recognition it deserves.
And for good reason- it is credited with fighting and potentially reversing disease. Its list of benefits is long, but the highlight reel includes anti-inflammatory properties and the fact that it helps in muscle recovery.
The best time to crack out this little elixir is post workout.
I add 1/2 a cup of Turmeric Golden Milk to my morning smoothie.
I feel sore pretty regularly between cardio, weights, and physical therapy. Adding the turmeric has definitely helped me feel better and feel less puffy from soreness.
So next time you are in the store, consider checking the elixir options instead of just heading over to the medicine aisle.
Using the benefits (and advances) of both western and eastern medicine can give you a great shot at feeling your best!
