The Sacramento Food Film Festival is almost here!
For those people who love food and movies (really who doesn’t??), it’s the perfect combo.
The dates for the 2018 festival are April 14th and April 21st. There is also the Opening Night Film Screening on April 11th, but that has already sold out (as I mentioned, people love food and movies!).
But no worries, if you didn’t snag your ticket for the April 11th event. There are still two food and fun-filled nights you won’t want to miss!
What is the Sacramento Food Film Festival?
The festival has been around since 2012. The concept is simple. Bring great movies that educate people about food to the Sacramento region. These films highlight the food system, the people behind the food we eat, and their stories.
Beyond being a fun celebration of all things food and film, it also helps out the amazing Food Literacy Center. This nonprofit teaches low-income elementary children cooking and nutrition to improve health, the environment, and economy.
Saturday Night Shorts
There are lots of great films at this year’s festival. And if you have a short attention span, you will definitely want to check out the event on April 14th called Saturday Night Shorts. All the films are about 20 minutes or less.
A movie I’m really interested in is Food City: The Fest of Five Boroughs. This short follows two New Yorkers as they challenge themselves to create a four-course meal for eight people using only foods that are farmed, fished, or foraged inside the limits of New York City.
Another one I’m excited to check out is Operation Apple by Giselle Kennedy. It’s about a small but mighty undertaking to save an apple orchard.

Broccoli HQ Night
Looking for a longer film experience AND want to check out the Food Literacy Center’s new digs???
Then get your ticket for the evening of April 21st. This will be hosted at Leataata Floyd Elementary School (aka Broccoli HQ, aka the new location for the Food Literacy Center).
The night will include a tour of the new facility and a viewing of Lunch Line, a documentary about the nation’s school lunch program including its past, current challenges, and opportunities.
And of course, there will be food! Dinner will be served “school lunch style” and prepared by chefs from the region’s top restaurants, including The Waterboy, Paragary’s, Kru, and Patriot.
Whichever night you go (or check out both!) you are sure to have a wonderful time.
So Sacramento, it’s time to eat, drink, and watch movies!
