I recently spent a few days in Washington D.C., but also found a ton of things to do in Georgetown.
I really love this little town, which is just a few miles from the National Mall. Next time you are in D.C., I’d highly recommend heading over and spending a few hours there walking around… and of course, eating.
So first things first, how do you get to Georgetown?
Well, of course, you can Uber or take a cab. Unfortunately, the Metro is not an option. Washington D.C. public transportation system doesn’t connect to Georgetown.
However, this time I found out how easy it is to jog there.
I stumbled upon the Georgetown Connector Trail during my morning run at the National Mall. You can just get on this easy, flat, bike/runner friendly trail and you’ll end up at the Georgetown waterfront.
So after you get there, time to eat to backfill some of those calories you burnt!
And there is no better way than at Farmers Fishers Bakers for their weekend brunch.
My D.C. trip planning always begins with figuring out if I’m having Saturday or Sunday brunch at this place.
It’s all you can eat and the food is amazing. In the restaurant’s authentic style, everything is farm to fork. It’s very fresh, beautifully presented, and tastes amazing.
My favorite is the French toast bar. I also love the fried chicken and grits.
My husband loves their pizza and their taco bar. No matter your palate, you’ll find something you love.
Post-brunch, take a nice little walk around the town itself.
To me, it seems very European. There is a canal that runs through the town and the beautiful homes look like something out of a painting.
A great way to relax is spending some time looking out over the water at Georgetown Waterfront Park.
You can also do some shopping.
Beautiful stores line Wisconsin or M Streets. And don’t miss Cady’s Alley, a pedestrian-friendly cobblestone lane south of M Street between 33rd and 34th. You’ll find a lot of high-end designer stores tucked away right there.
So now it’s time to eat again, right??
In my opinion, no trip to Georgetown is complete without stopping into Baked & Wired. This tiny coffee shop/bakery is on Thomas Jefferson Street, just a few blocks from the waterfront.
And don’t worry, you won’t miss it. There is almost always a line out the door.
This past trip I got the Elvis Impersonator cupcake. As you can image, it was a banana flavored cupcake with peanut butter frosting and a drizzle of chocolate on top.
Seriously amazing and worth absolutely ever calorie.
So next time you’re heading to D.C. take a break from all the museums and monuments and take in the beauty of Georgetown!
