If you hang around midtown Sacramento and haven’t yet been to the Tank House, I’m guessing you’ve at least smelled the amazing aroma coming from this outstanding barbecue restaurant.
Located on the corner of 19th and J Street, if you have trouble finding it, just follow your nose.
The team at Tank House barbecues and smokes their meats outside on their back patio and the scent instantly draws you in.
From the front, Tank House looks like a cool Victorian house, but step inside and it has the feel of a relaxed, local hang out.
When my husband Rob and I have a free Saturday, we love to ride our bikes down to the Midtown Farmer’s Market and then cross the street to have brunch at the Tank House.
You can’t go wrong with any of the options on the menu. However, at first glance, it may look a little tricky to eat light when you see something as amazing as the T-Man- their smoked brisket sandwich topped with onion rings, smoked provolone cheese, & sweet BBQ sauce on a brioche bun.
True- I haven’t figured out how to do that in a light version. But if that sandwich is calling your name, I say go for it. Save calorie counting for another day.
However, eating low-cal at Tank House definitely isn’t impossible.
Last week, I got the House Salad, which was seriously delicious. It’s lettuce, dried cranberries, cucumber, smoked almonds, and goat cheese with sage honey vinaigrette. So yummy.
It’s a good sized portion, but of course, I still needed some BBQ to round out the experience.
For that, I went with the half chicken. It’s perfectly smoked and really juicy. If you’re being extra good, skip the skin. The meat alone is so delicious you don’t even need it.
Added bonus, you can take half home and it’s perfect on its own or over a salad the next day.
As for my husband, he always makes sure to get his favorite, The Dirty Tots.
This signature Tank House dish is one of kind. It’s tater tots covered in cheese sauce and topped with pulled pork and BBQ sauce. It’s insanely good.
Of course, I always have a few tots with a healthy portion of the pulled pork. I promise, once you get this, it will become a no-brainer every time you go back to Tank House.
Rob loves to change things up, so he’s always open to a different meat each time we go. Last weekend he went with the lean cut beef brisket- yes, you can get the fatty cut if you like. Again, ridiculously good.
Previous times we have gone he’s ordered the ribs or the hot link. Both amazing, but be warned, they aren’t kidding when they say hotlink. It’s got some kick. Rob loves it, but if you can’t handle the spice, stick with one of their other amazing options.
He’s also very loyal to their mac and cheese.
It’s the real deal, and taking half home for later is a completely viable option. He swears it’s even better the next day.
As for dessert, I’m honestly not sure if they even have it. But after all that bbq goodness, who needs it?
Go big or play it light, either way, you should most definitely add Tank House to your restaurant rotation.
