ClassPass Sacramento Users: Since this post, ClassPass has changed its system again. For a more recent review of the ClassPass options please see my New ClassPass System Gets an A+ post.
If you’re like me, after your morning workout today (booked via ClassPass of course) you received an email from Payal Kadakia, the founder & CEO of the company.
Subject line didn’t look good: “An important change to your Unlimited Membership”.
Yes, important change indeed. If by change, you mean “It’s Over”.
The good times of Unlimited ClassPass will be no more. For those of us in Sacramento, that means the rate of $79 a month for all the classes you wanted to take is ending.
Instead, the Unlimited Plan will be replaced with the Core Plan.
So what does that mean? It means instead of unlimited classes, you only get 10 classes per month.
Sadly there is no change to the studio limit restriction. You can still only visit any studio on the ClassPass system four times per month.
So what happens if you want to workout more than 10 times a month? You can purchase bonus classes. If you live in the Sacramento region the cost for three additional classes is $25.
FYI- I emailed them to get this information. They don’t have the pricing for “bonus” class by region on the website, yet.
“Okay,” I thought. Maybe this isn’t that big of a deal. How much do I really use PassClass?
Apparently, a lot! I looked at my profile, and on average I go 20 times a month. If I were to try and do that under the new system, I’d pay over $150 per month. Considering I already pay for unlimited spin classes at a local spin studio, something would have to give.
Fortunately, I have a few more months before I have to deal with my next move.
The change won’t go into effect this billing cycle or the next. Lucky for me, my new billing cycle just started, so I’m fine through January.
At that point, my account will move over to Core, meaning that I get 10 classes a month.
However, to soften the blow, ClassPass is giving members on the Core Plan 10 additional classes per month for free. So that means through the beginning of April, I won’t see a difference.
So what happens in April? Who knows?
Honestly, when I signed up for ClassPass a few months ago, I didn’t know that: I would love Barre; that Boot Camp classes are actually fun; that kettlebell workouts can really tone your arms and shoulders like nothing else; or, what the heck a Megaformer really was.
Maybe by spring, I’ll have a new fitness obsession, and the rotation of classes that ClassPass offers will no longer be of interest… Or maybe, I find a second job to finance my fitness obsession!
Either way, I get it ClassPass. You’re a business, and you need to turn a profit.
As heartbroken as I am, I’m thankful for the system that broke me out my rut and introduced me to so many fun workouts. And of course, I’m just a little bitter that it’s all ending way too soon!
