Siggi’s Yogurt has become a daily staple in my diet. It’s this amazing yogurt that is low in sugar, but tastes ridiculously good.
I stumbled across Siggi’s through Shut The Kale Up, my favorite Instagramer. While I like a good cup of yogurt as much as the next person, she seemed obsessed with hers.
I instantly had food jealously and wanted to give this brand a try.
And it was worth the little extra effort to track down my first cup.
Although Siggi’s Yogurt isn’t super hard to find, it might take a trip to that grocery store you don’t always go to. I’ve found it at places like Target and Safeway, but if you want the full selection of flavors, a store with a focus on healthy, whole foods will be able to hook you up.
In Sacramento, I’d recommend going to Nugget Market. You can also find a nice selection at the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-Op.
So why make the extra effort and pay a little bit more?
Because while many of the popular yogurts aren’t horrible for you, they do can contain a lot of sugar. And I don’t know about you, but if I’m having sugar, I’m having some hardcore sugar!
I want a cookie, not 8 ounces of yogurt!
The current Dietary Guidelines for Americans suggests limiting added sugar to less than 10 percent of your calorie intake. So if you eat 2,000 calories a day, you should aim for less than 200 calories (50 grams) of added sugar.
Many yogurts can have up to 25 grams of sugar per serving. Do you want half of your sugar intake to be from a yogurt? No thanks.
Siggi’s Yogurt comes in varieties that have just 9-11 grams.
Plus they are sweetened with fruit and all-natural sweeteners like agave or cane sugar.
Looking to really cut your sugar, then try their plain (which is really good!). It has no added sugar.
But beside the fact that Siggi’s Yogurt is healthier and less processed than most yogurts on the market, it also tastes really, really good.
I love a nightly treat and I’m not the kind of person that is happy with a piece of fruit in place of my well-earned dessert.
But I will say I am fine swapping a scoop of ice cream for some vanilla flavored Siggi’s with blueberries mixed it.
So give it a try! My favorite flavors are the Strawberry & Rhubarb and the Orange & Ginger. And of course the aforementioned Vanilla. Sweet happiness.
