The Perfect Fit | Guide to Running Shoes

The perfect fit

For a long time, I was resistant to the idea of getting fitted for running shoes.

I was worried I’d be pressured into buying overpriced shoes that weren’t going to make a difference.

I always got my shoes from the department store, and hoped for the best fit as I guessed between a size 7.5 or 8, and then did a few quick jogs up and down the aisle to make sure they felt okay.

But recently my foot started to really ache after a long run.

I talked to my doctor and she said I have plantar fasciitis, a fairly common foot problem.

The solution, rest (I hate when the prescription is time!!).

And she suggested properly fitted shoes might help. Oh, and that might help my shin splints and hips as well.

As so with that in mind, I headed down to Fleet Feet in midtown Sacramento, a store that specializes in all things running.

First, pressure wasn’t an issue at all.

The person that helped me could not have been nicer. After he sized my feet, he asked me a lot of important questions.

How often did I run? What were my goals? Where did I feel pain before and after my run?

Then he brought out a few options. And of course, we found my perfect shoe/insole combo. Turns out my feet are lower maintenance than I thought! And my new Brooks running shoes weren’t much more than my regular brand.

But the difference has been huge!

I got the shoes a few weeks ago, and ever since my runs have been so much better. The plantar fasciitis, shin splints, and hip pain are gone. It’s amazing how much more enjoyable a run is when you aren’t in a lot of pain!

So if you’re a moderate to regular runner, I would highly recommend taking the plunge and going for some higher quality running shoes, purchased from a store that specializes in not just the shoes, but helping you find the correct fit.

I think of all the things I buy to support my love of exercise.

From studio memberships to a new pair of Lulu leggings- and all the while I wasn’t interested in spending a little more so my body could feel so much better.

A fourth of all the bones in the human body are in your feet. Why not hook yours up with some supportive love?
