Two Months Until Marathon

Two months until marathon

Today is officially two months until my scheduled marathon on June 4 in San Diego.

In a perfect world, I’d be doing a lot of speed work right now in an effort to get my marathon time under 4 hours.

Instead, I’m working my way back to 30 minutes of consistent running.

I’m rehabbing from a stress fracture I got in my shin at the end of January. Since then, I’ve had strict orders not to run.

I’ve kept my cardio to spin classes but cut out any running that doesn’t happen at physical therapy.

So is running my first marathon on June 4th realistic? Maybe. I’m not sure.

At my physical therapy appointment on Thursday, it will be the first question I ask.

Until then, I’m doing my best to stay positive. Because there is nothing wrong with being optimistic.

People may think I’m crazy to even consider it, but then again most people think I’m crazy to even want to do a marathon.

My husband and I were at a dinner party just a few nights ago with another couple, and they went on for about 10 minutes about how insane it is to run a marathon. Period.

I get it. It’s not their thing.

It’s not a lot of people’s “thing”.

Sometimes, even runners start to feel like it’s not their “thing”!

But people’s opinions don’t discourage me or make me think that my goals are crazy.

They are MY goals for a reason. They resonate with me.

People don’t have to understand what you put at the top of your bucket list. And just because they suggest it’s crazy, doesn’t make that a fact.

I’m sure if you heard some of their goals, you would find a few you thought were crazy, too.

People’s opinions only hold as much value as you want to give them.

You get to assign the currency to their comment. No one else can do that.

Not them, not society, just you.

No matter what you’re tackling, don’t do it for someone else. Or conversely, in spite of someone else.

Both people pleasing and the “proving others wrong” take up a lot of energy. They also don’t lead to a lot of peace.

My advice? Get behind your dreams. Take steps towards them and see where they take you.

And stay optimistic. It will make the journey far more enjoyable!!
