Valentine’s Day is officially a week way!
I really love this holiday, but I know it’s not necessarily a favorite of everyone.
I’ve heard all the Valentine’s Day hate. Many people mention it’s just a way for the card, floral, and restaurant industries to make money.
But I honestly feel differently.
What is wrong with a day to show a little extra love to those we care about?
But I think a big reason people hate this holiday is they wait ’til the last minute to get their loved one something. They procrastinate and now they are worried won’t give the perfect gift.
No one is happy in the grocery store line with a random card and some picked over roses at 5:30 p.m. on February 14th.
It’s just not a good place to be.
But the good news is you have a week! You really don’t have to be that person this year. Promise yourself you’ll square away Valentine’s Day plans today, and next Tuesday you can be the hero.
Ladies, I’m talking to you, too.
I know people generally feel the man should take care of the V-Day plans, but why not exercise the power? Pick your favorite restaurant and book those reservations!
He can’t be mad at you when his plan was… whatever place will take you because he called at 5:30 p.m. on Valentine’s Day (while waiting in line at the grocery store with those picked over roses).
Another idea- Pick a gift you both want.
Maybe something for the house, or a three-day getaway to a city within driving distance.
My husband and I have foregone gifts before and instead done a long weekend in San Francisco. Even a day trip feels really special and can be super relaxing. Plus, planning it together takes the guessing out of gift giving.
But I think what most people really want is to know that the person they love took the time to think about them.
You’re on the computer (or your phone) right now.
Think about something your loved one has mentioned they would love to have over the past few months.
Or maybe something you know would make their life easier.
Or just something that would make them smile.
Now order it, today. I’m serious.
I have a funny feeling you will actually pay less if you think it through right now and order it from Amazon or Target.
Procrastinators, I’m talking to you. I promise- you’ll thank me later.
Sure Valentine’s Day involves money, but I think what most people care about more than someone spending money on them is someone spending effort on them.
Go the extra mile today and you will get to soak up all the love and joy of Valentine’s Day with very little of the stress.
And with that, I’m heading over to my little Amazon account to practice what I preach!
Happy Tuesday all!
