Whether You Believe You Can Do It Or Not- You’re Right

Believe in yourself

I swear that my Thursday spin instructor is part workout guru and part motivational speaker.

Somehow she pedals at amazing speeds, calls out fun chorography, all while dropping inspirational messages. So many of her little nuggets have stuck with me long after I’ve left the studio.

And what she said today really struck a chord.

Whether You Believe You Can Do It Or Not- You’re Right

Of course, she said it as everyone in class was rapidly trying to keep on the beat of a crazy quick song. But, wow- What a truth!

So many times I’ve been doing something and felt good about the situation. Then out of nowhere, that negative voice will start saying it’s too hard, or I’m not smart enough to figure it out, and I’ll start to doubt myself.

What happens next is almost inventible. I’ll start to really struggle.

From writing something for work to holding a position in a Pilates class, suddenly the abilities I had just a second ago will feel like they disappeared.

And it’s not just with tasks, it’s also with relationships. I could be having a great conversation with a friend or coworker and my thinking shifts, which completely changes how I handle things.

I’ll start to feel self-conscious and awkward.

I’ll replay whatever I feel weird about in my head and stop being present in the conversation. Suddenly, the great talk I was having turns into a situation I just want to exit- And fast.

The power of our thoughts is amazing. And when you think about it, a thought is nothing more than something that passes through your mind. It has no real power. We just choose to let some thoughts guide us, while others we decide to quickly disregard.

So if this is the case, why not use your thoughts to build yourself up instead of tear yourself down?

I’m not talking about crazy egomaniac kind of building yourself up. But how about a healthy dose of self-worth?

What if the next time you told yourself you can accomplish whatever is front of you.

It might not turn into being incredibly easy, but it’s definitely more likely that you will continue to try until you feel like you’ve come to a place of accomplishment.

From workouts to work, I’m trying to tune into that cheerleader that builds me up, instead the scared person who says I can never do it.
